We may find it difficult to be grateful sometimes because we overlook the fact that most of us already have a life filled with blessings and abundance.
The more grateful you are, the more thankful we become for the smaller things in life. This habit evokes positive feelings and builds better self-esteem. People who are not grateful expect that they should be given more than they already have and end up always being dissatisfied, unhappy and pessimistic.
We then become a lot more self-satisfied and seek to appreciate the moment rather than lamenting about ‘wants’ if we remind ourselves everyday about what we already have.
One of the fastest ways to build optimism is to do this exercise at least 3 times a week until your unconscious mind gets used to looking for what works.

Similarly, building an emotional muscle requires one to not shun away from painful experiences but allow oneself to experience the pain, the challenge of handling complex situations and roughing it out until the mind and body adapts and tries new ways of handling the problem. This is how we build our emotional resilience.
